Tourism Selangor recently announced the 15 winners of this year’s pitching competition, which opened for submissions from the public on June 1.

The Tourism Selangor Pitching Competition 2023, the third one ever held, carried the theme of “Sustainable Tourism” and attracted 62 submissions. The 15 winners – 10 groups and five individuals – have been awarded a RM10,000 grant each, which they will then use to work on their proposed projects, and complete within the time frame given.

As stipulated, the projects must focus on the “17 Sustainable Development Goals” of the United Nations, including gender equality, economic growth, climate action, and sustainable cities and communities.

Jurors for the Tourism Selangor Pitching Competition this year were Azrul Shah Mohamad (Tourism Selangor CEO), Prof Dr Amran Hamzah (director of Centre for Innovative Planning and Development of the Malaysia Technology University), Loo Chuan Boon (chief operations officer of Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation), Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor (head of social responsibility and corporate communications of the Selangor Menteri Besar Incorporated), and Chua Yee Ling (Tourism Selangor manager of industry development).

According to Azrul, the competition has given opportunities to tourism industry players, non-governmental organisations, local community hosts, and higher educational institutions to reinvigorate the tourism industry in the state sustainably.
