环境变迁、粮食匮乏、营养不良影响着世界各国,另边厢却一直有浪费食物的问题。粮农组织估计,全世界有三分之一的食物在从生产地到餐桌的过程中被丢弃或浪费,而这些粮食损失足以养活12.6亿饥饿的人口。

Climate change, food scarcity, and malnutrition continue to affect countries around the world, and yet food waste remains a pressing issue. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), one-third of all food produced globally is lost or wasted from farm to table. That amount of food could feed 1.26 billion hungry people.


胡静怡(小胡)从2014年接触“光盘行动”,开始走入小学校园鼓励小朋友不要浪费食物,最近辞职后成立“森态”工作室,全心投入推广食物教育,倡导永续饮食的生活方式。

Since 2014, Foo Ching Yee (Cyeefoo) has been involved in the "Clean Plate Campaign", visiting primary schools to encourage children not to waste food. After recently leaving her job, she founded the O Sentai studio, fully dedicating herself to promoting food education and advocating for a more sustainable way of eating.

Every year, the United Nations calls for ambitious goals, and one of them is addressing the issue of food security. I read extensively and watch documentaries, and the more I learn, the more anxious I become. The sense of crisis only grows stronger, because environmental changes are happening at a much faster pace than the speed at which we are causing destruction."

我约了小胡在一家咖啡店见面,访谈前,她决定点一杯手冲咖啡。走到柜台,店员拿出包装介绍两款豆子,一个产自埃塞俄比亚,另一个是危地马拉。小胡习惯性地在包装上搜寻产品信息,缓缓地说:“两个都不是本地咖啡呢……嗯……但这个是在马来西亚加工的,就这个吧!”

I met up with Cyeefoo at a coffee shop. Before our interview began, she decided to order a hand-brewed coffee. At the counter, the barista presented two options: one from Ethiopia, the other from Guatemala. As usual, Cyeefoo carefully scanned the packaging for product details and said, “Neither of these is local coffee… hmm… but this one is processed in Malaysia. I’ll go with this one.”


有别于人们追求的色香味俱全,她对于食物的思考,始终离不开一个永续的消费概念——支持在地产品。

Unlike many who prioritise aroma, flavor, and appearance, her thoughts on food never stray far from one core principle of sustainable consumption—supporting local products.


“饮食永续,是解决粮食危机的关键。”也是SustainableX永续社区协会理事的小胡在马来西亚长期推广自然农耕和食物教育,或许是因为有制作儿童节目经验,她总能用最浅白易懂又有趣的方式,从最简单的土地到餐盘,再慢慢带出食物背后一连串供应和消费链,唤起人们对粮食危机的醒觉。

“Sustainable eating is the key to addressing the food crisis.” As a board member of the SustainableX Community Association, Cyeefoo has long been promoting natural farming and food education in Malaysia. Perhaps thanks to her background in producing children’s programs, she has a unique ability to explain complex issues in simple, engaging ways, starting from farm to table, gradually extending to the long chain of food supply and consumption, raising public awareness about the urgency of the food crisis.

食物教育涵盖食物营养、食安、饮食文化素养、食物产业链等,再延伸出厨房教育、可食校园、慢食文化等不同侧重的教育单元。简单而言,只要关乎食物跟人,都可纳入食物教育的范畴。

Food education encompasses nutrition, food safety, dietary culture, and the food industry chain. From there, it branches into kitchen education, edible campuses, and the slow food culture, each with a unique focus. Put simply, as long as it concerns the relationship between food and people, it falls within the scope of food education.

小胡积极提倡购买在地食物,比如马来西亚生产的印尼种酪梨(avocado)的体积等于一般国外进口酪梨的2至3倍,风味也不输人!Cyeefoo actively advocates buying local foods, like avocados grown in Malaysia from Indonesian varieties are 2-3 times larger than imported ones, and their flavor is just as good!


从土地到餐桌 推广“光盘行动”

From Soil to Table: Promoting the “Clean Plate Campaign”


2014年9月至2016年8月,小胡担任Happymove农耕光盘行动总策划,带着团队走入雪隆区校园推广光盘行动和展开短期课程和生活营,陪伴小学生手作环保、育苗、拔菜、烹调的过程。

Between September 2014 and August 2016, Cyeefoo served as the chief planner of the Happymove “Clean Plate Campaign”, leading her team into schools across the Klang Valley to promote the idea of not wasting food. Through short courses and lifestyle camps, she accompanied primary school students as they engaged in hands-on activities, crafting eco-friendly items, planting seedlings, harvesting vegetables, and preparing meals.


食物教育不应只停留在纸上谈兵,她设计的活动几乎都需要让小朋友亲自动手。“种菜的时候,你会期盼它的成长,如果付出后发现收成不如预期就会感到失落,从中感受到食物得来不易,才会珍惜。”

Food education, in her view, should never stay on paper. Nearly all of the programs she designed required children to get their hands dirty. “When you grow vegetables, you look forward to their progress. If the harvest doesn’t turn out as expected, you feel disappointed. That experience helps you understand that food does not come easily, and only then will you truly value it.”


她分享,自己在光汉小学展开的光盘行动重视不要浪费食物,先让小朋友有一个种子概念,从认识土地、土壤性质、如何照料到最后的餐桌饮食习惯,都在引导小朋友动态地学习。

She recalled implementing the “Clean Plate Campaign” at SJK (C) Kwong Hon, where the focus was to reduce food waste. The children first learned a “seed concept”, beginning with the land itself, exploring soil properties, and learning how to care for crops before moving on to dietary habits at the table. Each stage guided them to learn dynamically rather than passively.


“只有土地才可以让小朋友直接地感受,所以我尝试找很多有机小农合作,到农田办生活营。”小胡配合不同的受众灵活性地设计教程,不局限在狭隘的食物认识,而是围绕饮食永续的核心。去年12月,她与环境教育平台Let’sRE合作,到康乐华小合作举办3天2夜的《森活观察家体验营》,带着小学生亲手烹饪午餐同时感受大自然。她甚至到学校培训老师,因为教育者才是关键人物,否则这个理念很难延续下去。

“Only through the land can children directly feel this connection,” Cyeefoo explained. This was why she sought out partnerships with many small organic farmers, organizing lifestyle camps directly in the fields. With flexibility in tailoring lessons for different audiences, she never limited herself to narrow definitions of food knowledge but always circled back to the core idea of sustainable eating. In December last year, she collaborated with the environmental education platform Let’sRE and organized a three-day, two-night “Forest Life Observer Camp” at SJK (C) Taman Connaught. There, students not only cooked their own lunches but also immersed themselves in nature. She even extended her efforts to training teachers within schools. “Educators are the key players, without them, this idea cannot be carried forward.”

小朋友变“纠察员” 提醒父母

Children Become “Monitors” to Remind Their Parents


“我不是修环境教育而是念传播,我一直希望自己做的东西是跟社会有联系的。”

“I didn’t study environmental education, I studied mass communication. But I’ve always wanted the things I do to stay connected to society,” Cyeefoo shared.


小胡接触光盘行动的契机,是8年前在一间多媒体工作室上班时正好遇上教育家张伟慈老师发起光盘运动,促使两人首次的公益类合作,走入校园进行光盘宣导。

Her first encounter with the "Clean Plate Campaign" happened eight years ago, while she was working at a multimedia studio. There, she met an educator, who had just launched the campaign, and this marked their first collaboration in public education. Together, they stepped into schools to advocate for reducing food waste.


在构思策略上,她提议从在地食物开始,虽然本身不是学术性的人,但也因为筹办光盘活动开始阅读很多关于食物教育的书籍和纪录片。她笑说:“我第一次破例看那么多书,都是关于饮食文化和饮食教育的,无时无刻,起床便看书!就是为了找到答案,看这个东西(粮食问题)怎么解决。”

When brainstorming strategies, Cyeefoo suggested starting from local foods. Although she wasn’t an academic by training, her involvement in the campaign pushed her to dive into books and documentaries on food education and food culture. She laughed as she recalled: “That was the first time I ever broke my own rule, I read so many books, all about food culture and food education. I read from the moment I woke up! I just wanted answers, how do we solve this food issue?”


2022年10月初,她成立“森态”工作室作为长期食物教育的平台,主旨之一是教育大自然中的原食材,并尝试跟不同的非政府和环境组织合作举办工作坊、生活营或分享会,主要对象是小学生。

In October 2022, she founded O Sentai Studio as a long-term platform for food education. One of its key missions is to teach children about natural ingredients and to collaborate with NGOs and environmental groups to organise workshops, camps, and sharing sessions—mostly aimed at primary school students.


当然,不是所有小朋友都能理解复杂的粮食危机议题或就此改变饮食习惯,但她更希望自己能为他们埋下社会关怀和人文关怀的种子,再抛砖引玉,引起更多人对粮食问题的重视。

She is realistic about the challenges: not every child can fully understand the complexities of a global food crisis, nor will they instantly change their eating habits. But she sees her role as planting the seeds of social and humanistic care. Through simple, hands-on experiences, children can grow into little “monitors” who even remind their parents to value food and avoid waste. “If we can spark curiosity and care in them, that’s enough to ripple outward and inspire more people to pay attention to food issues.”

“成效其实只有30%或40%,但这些都是正向的人,他们可能会在家里的小地方、小土地开始实践,由他们来影响更多人。”

“The results are maybe only 30% or 40%, but they are positive ones,” Cyeefoo reflected. “These are people who might start small—planting in a little backyard plot or practicing mindful eating at home. But through them, the message can spread further.”


她分享,一些小朋友上了食物教育课程后,回家还变成了“小小纠察员”,提醒父母不要浪费食物,要光盘!

She shared that some children, after attending her food education classes, even go home and become little “inspectors”, reminding their parents not to waste food and to finish what’s on their plates.


“其实我们就是在用小朋友的语言,来告诉大人这些理念。”小胡也经常在活动中强调“不时不食”的理念,意指不是这个季节生产的食物就不吃、不是身体需要的不吃以及思考如何推广在地食物。

“In fact, what we’re really doing is using children’s language to communicate these values back to adults,” she explained. In her workshops, Cyeefoo often emphasises the concept of “eat only in season”: if it’s not the right season, don’t eat it; if your body doesn’t need it, don’t eat it; and consider how to promote and support local foods.

国人对粮食危机意识 不高

Public Awareness of Food Crisis Remains Low


即便体验过冠病疫情期间的粮食短缺、抢粮、囤货,但小胡认为,真正在意粮食课题的人还是太少,更多人是抱着既来之则安之的态度。

Even after experiencing food shortages, panic buying, and stockpiling during the Covid-19 pandemic, Cyeefoo believes that too few people in Malaysia truly care about food issues. Many adopt a passive “take things as they come” attitude.


“我国社会对粮食危机的醒觉是不高的,除非有哪一天像全国行动管制令(MCO)时才会稍微感受得到食物再贵也会买,但人们也不了解整体情况的严重性和紧迫性,因为我们并没有长期处于没有食物的状态。

“Awareness of the food crisis in our society is low. Unless something like the nationwide Movement Control Order (MCO) happens, people don’t really feel it. Even then, food might get more expensive, but people will still buy it. They don’t really understand the severity and urgency of the overall situation, because we’ve never been in a long-term state of food deprivation.”

“It’s something that’s hard to feel—people only cry out when the needle actually pricks them.”


除了珍惜食物,小胡未来的教育计划也涵盖饮食营养及安全,包括怎么选择食物、看成分标签,甚至直接让小朋友动手制作快餐和含糖饮料,从中判断健不健康并区分色素和自然颜色等等。

Beyond raising awareness about cherishing food, Cyeefoo’s future education plans also cover nutrition and food safety—such as how to choose food wisely, read ingredient labels, and even have children make fast food and sugary drinks themselves. Through this, they can judge whether something is healthy, and learn to distinguish between artificial coloring and natural colors.


除了贫穷导致无法获取健康食物,城市现代病也逐渐受重视,如过胖、糖尿过高、心肌梗塞、生理机能老化等。根据大马全国健康和病发率调查发现,我国每15人就有1人患肥胖症,有引起心血管堵塞的风险。此外,我国有390万人患糖尿病、640万人患高血压。

Apart from poverty, which prevents access to healthy food, modern urban illnesses are also a growing concern—obesity, high blood sugar, heart attacks, and age-related decline. According to Malaysia’s National Health and Morbidity Survey, 1 in every 15 Malaysians is obese, facing risks of cardiovascular blockage. Additionally, 3.9 million Malaysians have diabetes, and 6.4 million suffer from high blood pressure.


盼环境食育 纳入教育体系

小胡自称是沙巴风下之乡的孩子,从小跟大自然的关系很紧密,也会因目睹环境遭受破坏而痛心,这又与资源分配息息相关。

Calling herself a child of Sabah, Cyeefoo grew up closely connected to nature and feels pained when she witnesses environmental destruction—an issue closely tied to resource distribution.


她以粮食农业为例:“你在某个田地一直种并索取别人的土地和水,但当欲望和需求减少,不需要种那么多的时候,土地的老化是不是能比较缓慢,环境的破坏比较少,开垦的土地比较少?

She gave the example of agriculture: “If you keep planting on the same field and keep taking from others’ land and water, then when our desires and demands eventually lessen, we won’t need to plant so much. The land won’t age as fast, environmental damage will be reduced, and less land will need to be cleared.”


“如果今天我们的社会没有那么强求得到什么,是不是资源分配上就会比较均匀?这些都是意识问题。”而透过食育,人们才会思考到其他国家可能因为贫穷或分配不均无法获得食物,从而产生同理心并付诸行动去“保护粮食”。

“If our society were less obsessed with always having more, wouldn’t resources be distributed more fairly? These are issues of awareness. Through food education, people can begin to reflect on the fact that other countries may be unable to access food due to poverty or inequality. That way, empathy can be cultivated, leading people to take real action to protect food.”


她认为环境教育和食育将愈来愈受重视,正如不少人积极推广在地食品,并希望教育部未来能够将这些理念纳入教育体系或重要课程。

She believes that environmental education and food education will become increasingly important, noting that many are already advocating for local food. Cyeefoo hopes that in the future, the Ministry of Education can integrate such concepts into the education system as core curriculum.


全球7.68亿人在挨饿 768 Million People Hungry

仍有上亿吨食物被浪费 Yet Over a Billion Tons of Food Wasted

目前全球体系中的食物充足,据估计,全球人均每日的食物供应量将近每人3000卡路里、85克蛋白质和90克脂肪,远远超过人类健康生活所需的新陈代谢量,而导致饥饿和营养不良的主因是贫穷及分配不均,也包括过度的粮食损失和浪费。

Globally, food supplies are in fact sufficient. It is estimated that the average daily food supply per person amounts to nearly 3,000 calories, 85 grams of protein, and 90 grams of fat—well above what humans need for a healthy life. Hunger and malnutrition are mainly caused by poverty and unequal distribution, along with massive food loss and waste.


联合国预测,全球人数将在2050年达到90亿,2100年达到100亿,而印度将在明年超越中国成为世界上人口最多的国家。由于粮食分配不善,世界多个角落仍有非常多的人生活在贫困线下,为每日三餐挣扎。

The UN predicts that the global population will reach 9 billion by 2050 and 10 billion by 2100. India is projected to surpass China next year as the world’s most populous country. Yet due to poor distribution, many people around the world still live below the poverty line, struggling for daily meals.


全球从2019年的1.35亿人,到目前89个国家的5.97亿人没有充足的食物,大部分位于非洲的贫穷人口。

From 135 million in 2019, the number of people without adequate food has now risen to 597 million across 89 countries, with the majority living in poverty in Africa.


讽刺的是,即便2020年全球有7.68亿人长期处于饥饿和营养不良状态,每年还是有将近17%或上亿吨的食物被白白浪费。《2021年粮食浪费指数报告》指,2019年全球共有9.31亿吨的食物被丢弃在家庭、零售商和餐厅的垃圾桶里。

Ironically, even as 768 million people went hungry or malnourished in 2020, nearly 17% of global food (over a billion tons) is wasted each year. According to the 2021 Food Waste Index Report, in 2019 alone, 931 million tons of food ended up discarded by households, retailers, and restaurants.
