The school has placed several buckets in the cafeteria and posted the classification of cups, dishes, spoons and forks and food waste, so that children can eliminate waste on a daily basis to create a healthy food culture in the school.

(Kota Bharu, 10 October) Kota Bharu Pui Sik Chinese Primary School (KPCCS) has started to collect food waste for composting every day in the new school year, with the aim of creating a healthy food culture in the school, apart from eliminating waste.

The school now records the weight of daily food scraps after every class and composts the food waste. This initiative is in response to the "Farming CD-ROM Campaign" organized by Tanjong Discipleship Teaching Centre and HappyMove Malaysia, which aims to cultivate a sense of gratitude and appreciation for food by providing students with an in-depth understanding of food and the sources of nutrients needed by the body.

The event was organized by Jenny Hu of the Good Deeds Network, with the full support of Mr. Cheung Wai Chee, Dean of Danjiang.

Pui Chik Hwa Primary School was the first school to respond to the "Farming CD-ROM Campaign" when it was officially launched in Kelantan.

After the response, the school received a lot of positive feedback, and the school has further utilized the natural farming curriculum with practical experience.

Students are working together to scale food waste.

After collecting the food waste, students dumped it into the hole.

Once the food waste is poured down, find fresh grass with dead leaves to spread over it.

Cherish food and eliminate waste - Principal Tsai Sau Yin

Starting from this year, the school will teach all students to collect food scraps in designated pots after each meal, record the weight every day, and then dig holes to bury the food waste in the soil for composting.

This concept can cultivate students to develop the good habit of CD-ROM, to take practical action to inherit the traditional Chinese virtues, to promote thrift and frugality, to cherish food, to respect the fruits of labor, and to eliminate waste in order to create a healthy food culture environment in the school.

The activity is led by our Design and Crafts Officer, Ms. Cheng Mei Yun, with the full cooperation of the school administration.

After the promotion of the Farming CD-ROM Action in the school, it has already aroused the interest of many students. Starting from the 6th of this month, the school will compost about 8kg to 11kg of food scraps or food waste every day.

Since the school promoted the food waste sorting system, students have learned not to drop utensils and to sort them carefully, basically learning respect.

In order not to affect the students' classes, all the work of weighing food waste is carried out during class hours, and there are currently 6 Year 6 students involved, they are Wong Po On, Chan Chun Lun, Chan Wai On, Wong Sun Kiat, Kam Wang Sui and Shak Lik.
